FAQ

  • Bright Home Lights are permanent, weatherproof, individually addressable LED lighting systems installed under your roofline. They remain hidden during the day and provide beautiful, customizable lighting at night for holidays, events, and everyday ambient lighting.

    Are the lights permanent?

Yes. Our IP68-rated LEDs and aluminum tracks are designed for long-term outdoor use. Once installed, you never need to hang or remove holiday lights again.

Are the lights visible during the day?

No. When installed under the soffit using color-matched tracks, they remain virtually invisible in daylight.

  • Can I install the lights myself?

Yes — the system is DIY-friendly. You’ll need:

    • Comfort on a ladder

    • Basic drill & screw skills

    • Basic low-voltage wiring understanding

    • Ability to cut and rejoin wires

A national installer network is also available for professional installation.

    How long does installation take?

Most homes take 2–6 hours, depending on roofline complexity and footage.

    What tools do I need?

Included: tracks, LEDs, controller, power supply, extensions, pigtails, power injection T.

Not included: ladder, drill, screws, wire strippers, heat shrink/tape, saw, surge protector, and 16/18 AWG copper wire.

Where should the tracks be installed?

Under the soffit, as far away from the wall as possible for best daytime invisibility. Tracks can go around corners or straight lines.

Where should the controller be installed?

Indoors (ideal) — garage, attic, or closet.

Outdoor placements must be protected from weather.

  • How many LEDs can I run on one power source?

Typically 100–130 (12V) or 150- 200 (24V) LEDs per segment before power injection is required.

Longer runs → more voltage drop → more injection points needed.

    Do I need power injection?

    Yes, if you see:

    • Dim lights at the end

    • Flickering

    • Random color shifts

    • Voltage <3V at end of line from original voltage

Power injection maintains voltage and ensures even brightness.

Does data run smoothly across chained sections?

Yes — data flows cleanly as long as you configure the correct LED count.

    Can I split a string using a Y-cable?

    No. This causes:

    • Loss of individually addressable control

    • Voltage drop

    • Data corruption

    Use separate controller outputs instead.

Can wires be hidden during installation?

Yes. You can hide wiring inside tracks, behind gutters, or inside the attic for a clean look.

  • What direction does data flow?

ONLY in the direction of the arrow printed on each puck.

Reversing it stops the LEDs from responding.

Can I cut and reconnect LEDs?

Yes. You can cut anywhere on the wire. Always match:

    • Red → Positive

    • Black → Negative

    • Green/Yellow → Data

    What connectors should I avoid?

Avoid WAGO-type connectors, expect if properly used in easy to reach areas — they perform poorly with stranded wire and often cause flickering or complete signal failure.

  • What type of LEDs do you use?

    • Individually addressable RGB or RGBW puck LEDs

    • 12V or 24V

    • IP68 waterproof

    • 110–120 lumen output

    • ~9W per 10-pack on full white

What is the difference between “Warm White” and “Daylight”?

    • Warm White: ~3000K (soft/yellow)

    • Daylight: ~6000K (cool/bright)

Both can be recreated using RGB mixing.

Can the Daylight LEDs look like Warm White?

Yes. Both are RGBW and can blend to create any shade of white.

What track colors do you offer?

    White, Black, Oyster, and Brown.

Can you match a specific paint color?

DIrect matching with Sherwin Williams available , please contact us to discuss.

Custom colors are available using the RAL chart on custom orders.

How long do custom-color tracks take?

Typically 2 weeks + 3–5 days shipping (longer during peak season).

  • What is the track size?

    • 1 meter aluminum track

    • 30mm RGB(W) LED pucks

    • 76mm spacing between pucks

    • 40mm wide track profile

    • 25mm tall track profile

    • Weatherproof X-Connect wiring

  • How does the Smart Controller work?

    It includes:

    • 4 data outputs

    • Onboard 5A & 10A fuses

    • WiFi control (Ethernet on some models)

    • 12V/24V power supply options

    • Supports systems up to ~1600W with supplemental power

Can I run a long cable (20–30 ft) to the controller?

Not recommended — long runs cause voltage drop.

Use thicker wire, shorten distance, or inject power closer.

  • How do I control the lights?

Using the Bright Home App (WLED-powered) on iOS & Android.

    Features include:

    • Color selection

    • Custom effects

    • Schedules

    • Individual LED control

    • AI Theme Generator

    • Segments & presets

    • Music sync

    • Network settings

Do the lights work with Alexa or Google Home?

Yes — supported via WLED integrations.

    Can I control multiple controllers?

Yes. You can add multiple controllers inside the app. They will operate via a network sync as where one controller sends instructions to the other one.

    Can I generate quotes?

Yes — using the BHL Designer App, which allows:

    • Photo upload

    • Roofline tracing

    • Automatic length calculation

    • PDF quote export

  • Lights are dim at the end

    Voltage drop.

    Fix:

    1. Shorter segments (under 100–130 LEDs)

    2. Add power injection

    3. Check voltage at the end (>9V)

Lights flicker or show random colors

Likely bad ground or voltage drop.

    Fix:

    • Recheck NEGATIVE connection

    • Add injection

    • Check wiring for loose joints

Lights turn solid blue and won’t change

    Means: Power OK, data missing.

    Fix:

    • Check data wire

    • Check arrow direction

    • Check GPIO settings

    App can’t connect (shows offline)

    Fix:

    • Ensure controller has power

    • Improve WiFi signal

    • Restart controller

    • Reconnect to network

    • Use Ethernet if possible

Lights flicker after long cable jumps

    Data signal issue.

    Fix:

    • Ensure DATA and NEGATIVE wires are intact

    • Add a data booster if needed

WLED app is glitchy after firmware update

Roll back to original (stock) firmware if issues occur.
