FAQ
What are Bright Home Lights?
Bright Home Lights are permanent, weatherproof, individually addressable LED lighting systems installed under your roofline or soffit. They stay in place year-round and can be used for holidays, game days, parties, security-style accent lighting, and everyday warm-white lighting.
Are the lights permanent?
Yes. The LEDs and aluminum tracks are designed for long-term outdoor use, so you do not need to hang and remove temporary holiday lights every season.
Are they visible during the day?
When installed under the soffit with a color-matched track, the system blends into the roofline and is much less noticeable during the day.
Can I install Bright Home Lights myself?
Yes. Many customers install the system themselves if they are comfortable using a ladder, drilling into soffits or trim, and making low-voltage wiring connections. If you prefer a hands-off project, you can also use an installer where available.
How long does installation take?
Install time depends on the home, roofline, access, and the number of power injection points. Many straightforward installs take a few hours, while larger or more complex layouts can take longer.
Where are the tracks installed?
The tracks are normally mounted under the soffit or roofline with the LEDs aimed toward the exterior wall so the light washes down the home cleanly.
Can the controller be installed outside?
Indoor placement is preferred when possible. If the controller must be outside, it should be mounted in a protected, weather-resistant location with proper ventilation and safe access.
How do I measure my home?
Measure the roofline areas where you want lights installed, including peaks, garage lines, patios, and returns. For help, use the Bright Home Designer or the measurement guide before ordering.
What is power injection?
Power injection adds additional power along longer runs so the LEDs stay bright and colors remain consistent. It is commonly needed when a run is long, the far end looks dim, colors shift, or the lights flicker.
Can I split one output with a Y-cable?
We generally do not recommend splitting a data run with a Y-cable. Addressable LEDs need a clean data path, and splitting can cause unstable behavior unless the layout is specifically designed for it.
Can I run long cable from the lights back to the controller?
Long data or power cable runs can create voltage drop and signal issues. Keep controller-to-light runs as short as practical, and use power injection or a different controller location when needed.
Which direction should the LEDs face in the wiring path?
Follow the data direction arrow on the puck or strip. If the direction is reversed, the LEDs may not respond correctly.
Can the lights be cut and reconnected?
Yes, the wiring can be cut and reconnected when needed. Match positive, ground, and data wires carefully, protect every splice from weather, and test each section before final mounting.
Can I use WAGO-style connectors?
Use weather-appropriate connectors and only place serviceable connectors where they can be inspected later. Avoid leaving non-weatherproof connectors exposed to moisture.
What track colors are available?
Common track colors include white, brown, black, and oyster. Custom color options may be available for projects that need a closer exterior match.
Are the lights RGB or RGBW?
Bright Home Lights systems are built around individually addressable LED pucks, with RGBW options available for richer color and better white tones.
What white colors can I use?
Warm white is commonly used for everyday accent lighting, while daylight white creates a brighter, cleaner look. RGBW systems can also mix white and color effects for more flexible scenes.
How bright are the lights?
Brightness depends on spacing, voltage, controller settings, power injection, and the color being displayed. The system can be tuned down for subtle accent lighting or raised for holidays and events.
Can the track match my house?
Yes. Choosing the right track color is one of the best ways to keep the system discreet during the day.
What does the controller do?
The controller is the brain of the system. It sends data to the LEDs, manages effects, and connects the lights to app control, schedules, presets, and smart integrations depending on your setup.
Do I need 12V or 24V?
The correct voltage depends on the lights, controller, and layout. Match the controller and power supply to the LED product you are installing.
Why are fuses important?
Fuses help protect wiring and equipment by limiting current on each output. They are an important part of a clean permanent lighting installation.
Can one controller run my whole house?
Often yes, but larger homes may need multiple outputs, power injection, or additional equipment depending on total LED count and layout.
Can I control the lights from my phone?
Yes. The BHL app gives you control from iOS and Android devices, including colors, brightness, effects, schedules, and presets.
Can I control the lights from multiple devices?
Yes. Cloud-enabled control makes it easier to use your lights from more than one device, including phone, tablet, desktop, and compatible voice or smart-home workflows.
Where is the cloud app?
You can access the cloud app at cloud.brighthomelights.com when your system is set up for cloud control.
Does it work with smart home platforms?
Compatibility depends on the controller and setup, but common workflows can include WLED-based control, Home Assistant, Alexa, Google Home, xLights, and other lighting tools.
Why are some lights dim or the wrong color?
Dim lights, flicker, or color shift near the end of a run usually points to voltage drop or insufficient power injection. Check voltage at the problem area and add power where needed.
Why are the lights not responding?
Check the power supply, fuse, controller output, data direction, ground connection, LED count, and app/controller settings. A single reversed connector or missing ground can stop a run from behaving correctly.
Why does only the first section work?
This often means the data path is interrupted after the working section. Inspect the next connection, splice, or puck direction and test in smaller sections.
What should I check before asking for support?
Take photos of the controller, wiring, first LED connection, and the affected section. Note the controller model, voltage, LED count, and where the issue starts.
How much do permanent LED lights cost?
Cost depends on roofline length, track color, controller choice, power needs, and whether the project is DIY or professionally installed. The bundle pages show current product pricing.
What should I order first?
If you are not sure, start with the measurement guide or demo track. If you already know your roofline length, choose the bundle size closest to your measured footage.
Do you ship the products?
Yes. Shipping options and availability are shown during checkout based on the items in your cart and your delivery address.
Is there a warranty?
Warranty details can vary by product and installation conditions. Review the current limited warranty page before ordering.
